Birth of a Planet is our first documentary, but it certainly won’t be the last. In our quest to find a story that would help us tell our own – that representation in media matters in the news, culture and advertising –we came across a publication called The Richmond Planet and its editor John Mitchell Jr., and knew this was exactly what we were searching for. Initially, the project was for a mural outside of our Scott’s Addition studio: a little bit of a love letter to our city and its history with the help of local artist, Hamilton Glass. But the deeper we dug into the story, the more we felt compelled to tell it in full. And we knew that as a creative and production studio, we had the tools and resources to give it life. After conceiving, writing, directing, shooting, editing, researching, art directing, designing, animating, scoring, coloring and finishing this documentary, we’re thrilled to share it with the world at the Richmond International Film Festival, and we hope it adds a chapter to our collective story.
